Things are really moving forward with the adoption! No NEW news, but we had a session last night with the director of the agency to go through the hospital experience (what happens when the birth mother gives birth in the hospital – adoptive parents’ roles, what not to do, what to do, rights, laws, etc.) and a little more about transracial adoption, which we will receive further counseling on before making a decision. We asked her all sorts of questions – like who names the baby, birth fathers’ roles in signing consent, etc. I feel overall it was a really helpful and uplifting meeting, and I can see more clearly what we have left to do.
This Saturday (tomorrow!) we have the first of our home study interviews, where a representative will come to the house to interview me and Sean, look at the house, etc. It should take about 3 hours. And besides that, I am waiting to hear if my second take at the fingerprints went through (for child abuse clearance), we have a mandatory workshop on 2/2 in Philadelphia, and we just have to complete our profile book. After all that we are ready to have our profiles shown to birth mothers! So once all of that stuff is done, we wait. That part is the part that could take a few months to a few years.
As we described it last night, “hurry up and wait.” So now we are just finalizing the paperwork, putting together the book (which I’ve been working on for a few weeks now), getting through the workshop and interviews, and THEN … we wait for a birthmother to choose us.
WOW.
I am also starting to put some thoughts together on the Pink and Pearls book I am going to be writing. I had a very inspiring and encouraging lunch with a friend who happens to be an author, and she gave me great advice on how to get started, as well as a sample book proposal, which I really appreciate. So this will be another big project as well, but it’s nothing I can’t handle. And when I want to do something, I do it. That’s how things are now. So writing a book will be a huge commitment, but I can and I will.
I have lots of fun plans coming up with friends and family that will help keep my seasonal depression at bay! So I feel like there IS a light at the end of this dark and gloomy tunnel I’ll call winter. Plus I am upping my runs (I did 5 miles Wednesday night) and soon, hopefully, I can get back to running outside now that the days are getting ever-so-slightly longer.
I know this is a short post. I just wanted to write a quick update on what’s been happening with the adoption.
I hope everyone has a glorious weekend!
