Welcome to my blog, Pink and Pearls, where the pink stands for my favorite color and breast cancer awareness, and the pearls represent my love for fashion and all things elegant and classy.
I'm a 26-year-old newspaper reporter who got diagnosed with breast cancer two months after I got engaged. I created this blog to share the joys of planning my wedding, and also the physical and emotional journey I'm going through as I work to fight this disease and move on with my life. The diagnosis was both scary and shocking (this is my second cancer) but my fiance, friends and family have helped keep me strong and motivated.
Most 26-year-olds never even consider the possibility of getting breast cancer, and up until a few months ago, I was one of those people. Doing regular self breast exams not only found my cancer early, but could have possibly saved my life. I want younger women to know that they, too, are at risk, and although they are not recommended to get mammograms, they need to take other action to make sure they are aware of their health and any changes.
Although some days are tougher than others, I am doing my absolute best to keep living my life and doing the things I love.
DEAREST MARJORIE, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL BLOG BY A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG WOMAN! AND YOUR MOM IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT, "YOU ALREADY ARE DOING IT". KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, AND THE FIGHT, AND I KNOW YOU WILL RUN MANY MORE 5KS. THANK YOU FOR EDUCATING YOUNG GIRLS LIKE YOURSELF ABOUT BREAST CANCER, BECAUSE UNFORTUNATELY, IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE. CAN'T WAIT FOR YOURS & SEAN'S WEDDING - IT'S GOING TO BE GREAT:) XOXO ELAINE
